Our Sommeliers
Alanna McIntyre
Since 2007, Alanna has been the resident sommelier at Bishop's Cellar. Some of her many responsibilites include: running the wine education program, hosting tasting seminars, planning private corporate events and even judging wine competitions.
Alanna's interest in languages and the arts ultimately led her to Italy where she was first introduced to wine and food, as well as her first formal wine tasting. Upon returning to Nova Scotia, Alanna helped her father establish a small vineyard in the Annapolis Valley, but decided that she preferred wine tasting rather than the rigours of viticulture. This interest led her to enrol and sucessfully complete the International Sommelier Guild's programme. Alanna returned to Italy and remained there for the next four years, where she cultivated her passion for Italian food, wine and "la dolce vita". Luckily for Bishop's Cellar, she returned to Halifax and has been an integral part of our team ever since!
Erin Horton
Erin graduated from the CAPS Sommelier program in 2007, and works with us on our Licensee Sales side. She has spent many years in the restaurant industry; first as a way to earn a living while in University, and eventually as a Manager and Wine Director. Having spent time in a few of Halifax's finest places to dine and drink wine, food service and wine training is her specialty.
With a thirst for knowledge (no pun intended) she visits wine regions as often as possible. "Before I knew what I know now, I drank wine ... now I taste and enjoy wine. There is so much out there people should always try something new. That next great bottle is just waiting to be found." When she's not selling wine, Erin can be found sailing or brushing up on her ever expanding "product knowledge".
