Peter Lehmann Eden Valley Riesling 2008

Eden Valley, South Australia - $20.00

Pale lemon with green tints.  Attractive floral and lime aromas carry through on the refreshingly mineral palate.  A dry, clean focused Riesling.

About Eden Valley Rieslings

Riesling was first planted in the shallow, rocky soils of the Eden Valley, high in the Barossa ranges, in the early 1850’s as settlers to the region found that it was a well suited grape varietal producing a finer, more focused and fruity wine.  Great Eden Valley Rieslings are floral and fresh in youth with tangy crispness and mineral acidity.  Over time, these flavours mellow and develop into a certain honeyed and toasty quality.

Riesling and Food

Good Rieslings are known for their balance of acidity and sugar. The grape’s natural acidity makes it a very food friendly wine.  It’s often my go to bottle when faced with a wine and food pairing dilemma.  Riesling is a wine that can handle a full spectrum of foods, from tangy vinaigrettes to flavorful, richly sauced mains.

Rieslings are perfect partners for Asian inspired cuisine – the wine’s inherent fruitiness (even dry Rieslings are “fruity”) plays a nice contrast to the spiciness in many of these dishes, while the grape’s zippy acidity compliments the tanginess of certain commonly used ingredients like ginger and lime.   You should also consider Riesling as an option to pair with white meats, especially pork dishes with fruit based sauces or honey glazes.

A dry style of Riesling, such as the 2008 Peter Lehmann Eden Valley Riesling works well with freshly chucked oysters, shellfish and grilled fish.  This recipe for Snow Crab Cakes from Chives Bistro has my mouth watering for a glass of this wine right now…

Cheers!
