Tyrell's Verdehlo 2009
Hunter Valley, Australia | $20.50

Sitting by the lake last Sunday this proved to be the perfect summer wine. This 100% Verdhelo is a medium bodied wine of white peach and spices, with a zesty lime finish. It offered a nice alternative from the typically light bodied and crisp wines of summer.  It was bold enough to be paired with chicken on the bbq and spicy green beans, yet light enough to be enjoyed by itself.

Leeuwin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
Margaret River, Australia | $60.00

This Australian Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River has lots of red and blackcurrant on the nose following through with dark berry, mocha and spice on the palate. The finish lingers with cherry and spice The tannins came through strongly when first opened, but tamed down after a thorough decant and it was well worth the wait.

Quail's Gate Pinot Noir 2008
Okanagan Valley, Canada | $34.25

It’s tough to find good pinot at a decent price, but this wine makes Canada proud. It’s loaded with dense black cherry and cola notes followed by serious minerality and elegant spice. The concentration in the mid-palette is phenomenal. This is a tremendous value pinot and best of all it’s Canadian. A must-try for any pinot-loving patriot.

Bisceglia Terra di Vulcano Falanghina 2009
Basilicata, Italy | $18.75

My mother makes a poached pear and hazelnut tart for special occasions and this wine reminds me of the delicate flavours in one of my favourite deserts. It has soft floral notes with delicate undertones of pear and a touch of nuttiness.

Abad Dom Bueno Mencia 2008
Bierzo, Spain | $17.50

Really complex wine for less than $20.  Stong oak notes up front which eventually fade to the background.  This is replaced by earth, tabacco and spice.  I recommend you try this medium to full bodied with your next BBQ'd meal.   Bueno!

Katnook Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Coonwara, Australia | $20.50

A light Sauvignon Blanc with hints of gooseberry and soft tropical notes on the nose, a zesty citrus palate and a lingering fruit finish. The perfect accompaniment to fresh garden vegetables on a hot sunny day.

Poema Cava Brut N/V
Penedes, Spain | $18.00

Aromas of peaches, pears and sublte toasted bread.  Persistent bubbles on a dry palate with bright citrus notes and a crisp clean finish.  One of the most food friendly wines out there!  Enjoy as an aperitif, with smoked foods and spicy Asian dishes
